Artist Statement
Exploring the natural beauty of Canada and other parts of the globe has instilled in me a love of nature and wildlife. Through my art, I try to express my love and appreciation of the natural world and hope to inspire others to feel the same way. I enjoy painting different genres and whatever appeals to my emotions. Painting primarily in oils, glazing with thin layers of paint, I strive to create realistic art that will speak to the viewer as much as it does to me.
Artist Biography
Louise is a Canadian-born artist who paints en plein air and in the studio. She is inspired by a diverse range of subject matter and the opportunity to utilize different techniques. Exploring daily the conservation lands behind her home, Louise carries her camera to capture things that catch her attention - the light, the shadows, the colours, textures, abstract shapes, reflections or maybe the mood of a landscape - and then she paints them in a way that works to recreate the feeling for the viewer. She finds beauty in setting up still-lifes with everyday objects. Mostly painting with oils in a representational realism style, she glazes with layers of thin oil paint to produce the subtle changes that are close to realism and add depth to the painting.
Louise began her artistic journey in 1986 when Decorative Art initially intrigued her and for many years she taught this diverse art form, owning and operating a retail art school. In 2006, she earned the internationally recognized Certified Decorative Artist Award from the International Society of Decorative Painters. She learned extensive technical skills and colour theory that she continues to develop. She has studied with many internationally recognized artists, including Robert Bateman, Terry Isaac (late), David Kitler, Juan Martinez and Academy of Realist Art (Toronto), Lee Craigmile and Elizabeth Robbins. An avid learner, Louise knows that her growth as an artist will continue throughout her life. Louise continues to organise art workshops and hosts the aforementioned artists, amongst others, for guest seminars that give other artists opportunities to learn and to share the camaraderie of fellow artists. Her artwork is in several Canadian, American and United Kingdom collections. She is a member of the Clarkson Society of Artists, the Colour and Form Society, The Society of Canadian Artists, the Federation of Canadian Artists ,FCA Toronto and was awarded in 2022 AFCA Signature Status in the Federation of Canadian Artists.
